Moseley 26 – Cornish Pirates 26
A try from Moseley wing Jack Pons and Brad Davies’ subsequent touchline conversion in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time denied the Cornish Pirates a third successive win of the new season.
The result was a huge disappointment for the Pirates who fought back from eight points behind early in the second half to lead 26-19 with the game in its final phase. But a dogged Moseley pack stuck to their route-one principles and carved out a gap for Pons to wriggle through and score right at the death.
Carl Rimmer`s try and a penalty from Rob Cook gave the Pirates a good start but with Rimmer then yellow-carded Moseley battled back to lead 12-8 at the break after a brace of tries from full-back Anthony Carter.
Rob Cook reduced the home lead to a single point with a penalty before centre Andrew Reay snatched a third try for Moseley. Davies converted and Moseley led 19-11.
But two tries in ten minutes from the Pirates looked to have secured victory as Moseley struggled with pace and width. Matt Hopper set up Nick Jackson to race under the posts and then Grant Pointer brilliantly off-loaded to Phil Burgess and the young flanker sprinted down the touchline from 30 metres.
Cook could have made victory safe with a 77th minute penalty attempt but missed only for Moseley to have the final say in an entertaining contest.
