Paradise Park, Hayle 06/08/10
Paradise Park, situated in Hayle, was opened in 1973 as a tropical bird garden, the collection starting with owls, eagles, cranes, peacocks and parrots. The collection at the time wasn't about conservation, but as time past it became apparent that certain species needed help both in the wild and captivity. At which stage Paradise Park went from being just a home for birds to being actively involved in conservation.

What is it? – Paradise Park, situated in Hayle, was opened in 1973 as a tropical bird garden, the collection starting with owls, eagles, cranes, peacocks and parrots. The collection at the time wasn’t about conservation, but as time past it became apparent that certain species needed help both in the wild and captivity. At which stage Paradise Park went from being just a home for birds to being actively involved in conservation. The park is now the base of the World Parrot Trust, a world-wide charity which raises funds and awareness. The Park is set around a Victorian walled garden, and features tropical plants which thrive in Cornwall’s mild climate. The park also has a small children’s play area called the Jungle Barn, and a farm style ‘Petting Zoo’.
Where is it? – The Park is set in the centre of Hayle, a town a few miles up the north coast from St. Ives and just under 8 miles from Penzance.
When is it open? – Paradise Park opens at 10am everyday with last entry to the bird gardens varying during the year due to day light hours.
- Summer Season – May to September – 10am to 5pm
- Spring/Autumn Season – 10am to 4pm
