What is it? – St. Michael’s Mount is one of Penwith’s most cherished sights, and one of the most photographed places in England. The island is set a few hundred yards from the shore at Marazion and is only accessible by foot at mid to low tide. Set atop the island is the Castle, overlooking the whole of Mounts Bay and the Lizard. The building is maintained by the National Trust, but has been the home of the St Aubyn family for centuries.

Where is it? – 3 km east of Penzance, just off the shore at Marazion. It is visible from any part of Mounts bay sea front.

When is it open? – The castle, the shops and the restaurants of St Michael’s Mount are open to visitors every day of the week except Saturday between 16th March and 2nd November between 10.30am and 5pm. Occasionally, boating operations may be affected by adverse weather and sea conditions.

Why should I/we go? – If you only visit one tourist attraction whilst in west Cornwall, St. Michael’s Mounts has to be it. Beautiful castle and gardens, excellent photo opportunities and a lovely cafe with on of the best cuppa’s in Penwith.
